512,851. Fluid-pressure brakes. BOSCH GES., R. (formerly BOSCH AKT.-GES., R.) March 22, 1938, No. 8719. Convention date, March 22, 1937. [Class 103 (i)] In a trailer fluid-pressure brake an auxiliaiy lever 21 for operating the brake by muscular effort is also used to operate an auxiliary valve for operating the trailer fluid-pressure brake when the trailer is uncoupled. The trailer brake cylinder 10 is supplied with fluid from an auxiliary reservoir 17, Fig. 1, by a distributor 15 operated when fluid is exhausted from pipes 18, 19 leading to the tractor, for instance when the trailer is disconnected. The auxiliary valve 20 connecting the pipes 18, 19 is adapted to release the trailer so that the trailer can be moved after disconnection from the tractor. To release the brakes the lever 21 is moved to the left and through a spring 44 and a lever 43 moves a sliding pipe 29 and a diaphragm 24, 33 to the right until a disc 33 mounted on the diaphragm by means of a bellows 34 seats on the end of the pipe 18. Further movement causes opening of a valve 31 and admission of fluid from the auxiliary reservoir 17 by pipes 40, 39, 29 and apertures 37 to the pipe 18 and valve 15, whereupon the brakes are released. Fluid is also admitted by a channel 41 to the chamber 25 on the left-hand side of the diaphragm, which is thus held to the right so as to maintain the brakes released. The brake may be again applied by movement of the lever to the night which moves the diaphragm 24 and the disc 33 to the left to allow fluid to escape from the pipe 18 and also from the chamber 25 by the pipe 19. The spring 44 allows graduated application and release. The lever 21 is also used to apply the brakes directly by pin and slot 47, 48 and a rod 49.
