Abstract
518,697. Dichlorobutenes. GROVES, W. W. (I.G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 3, 1938, No. 25825. [Class 2 (iii)] Dichlorobutenes are manufactured by causing gaseous chlorine to act upon gaseous butadiene. in the presence of a gaseous diluent which is inert with respect to chlorine and butadiene. Diluents mentioned are nitrogen, the noble gases, halogenated hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide. The reaction may be performed in a cooling device which may be charged partially or entirely with filling material, an inlet tube for the chlorine extending into this reaction chamber. The proportion of chlorine used is preferably 0.75-1.0 mol. per mol. of butadiene. In examples (1) chlorine enters at the upper end of the cooling tube 1 connected with a separating chamber 2 which is connected with a second cooler 3 ; this cooler is provided with a separating chamber 4 and a cock 5 for the waste gas ; a pump 6 causes the butadiene to circulate in the apparatus: chlorine is supplied from the container 7, nitrogen from the container 8 and butadiene from the container 9 ; 10, 11, 12 and 13 are devices for measuring the speed of the gases ; a mixture of 1:2-dichlorobutene-3, 1:4-dichlorobutene-2 and' chlorination products of higher boiling point is obtained ; and (2) as in (1) except that the diluent is difluorodichloromethane.
