518,629. Flexible towing-connections. PAINE, F. A. J. Aug. 30, 1938, No. 25388. [Class 78 (ii)] The slack of a tow rope 3, connecting a breakdowri ambulance 1 to a towed vehicle 4, is taken up, whenever the distance between the vehicles decreases, by a spring 8, which is secured at one end to a hook 7 on a crane 2 mounted on the vehicle 1 and at the' other end to a clamp 5 on the tow rope. A wire rope 9, of length greater than the stretched length of the spring, maintains the connection between the vehicles if the rope 3 breaks between the clamp 5 and. the shackle 6.
