Abstract

518,087. Switchgear structures. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GARRARD, C. J. O. Aug. 15; 1938, No. 23991. [Class 38 (v)] The vertically-withdrawable circuit-breaker 1 is adapted to connect the busbars 18 with the cable 21, the circuit including current transformer 20 and fixed socket 19 co-operating with a plug contact 14 in a bushing insulator 13. The breaker 1 is supplied with air from a reservoir 3 and the exhaust gases pass into a cooler 7 containing a labyrinth 12 and comprising an impregnated-paper cylinder 8 surrounding a metal cylinder 9 which acts as a current-lead to the fixed breaker contact. The cylinder 9 carries a number of contact-fingers 10 which co-operate with an annular contact 11 connected by means of a lug 24 to the busbar. The contact 11 is carried by an insulating tube 22 into which the cooler 7 projects in the operative position, the tube having a cover 23 and anti-flash over insulating baffles 25. A metal case 15 encloses the breaker 1, which, when lowered by means not shown, is removable by means of the wheeled support 4. The structure may be air or compound-insulated.
