Abstract
488,342. Switchgear structures; fusible cutouts. NIJLAND, H. A. H. Oct. 21, 1937, No. 28797. Convention date, Nov. 17, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a high-voltage circuitbreaker having the contact elements in a fixed metal fluid-containing tank provided with fixed lead-in conductors to which the elements are connected so that they can be entirely withdrawn from and inserted into the tank while the conductors are alive, the tank consists of two tubular casings or the like intercommunicating at their top ends and having the insulators through which the lead-in conductors pass mounted in or near their bottoms, and the contact element, comprising an axially-movable plugging contact, is arranged in the axis of one of the tubular casings. Figs. 1, 2 show in the operative and withdrawn positions, respectively, a breaker adapted to connect a bus-bar 13 with a cable in a junction box 26, for which purpose, lead-in conductors 12, 25 project from the bus-bar and cable, respectively, into the lower ends of vertical tubular casings 6, 21, interconnected by an oil-filled receptacle 28. The movable contact 1 is adapted to bridge fixed contacts 2, 4 which respectively comprise also contact-fingers 3, 5, and is insulated at 8 from operating rod 7. Contact 2 is connected to the plug-like end 11 of lead-in 12 by means of contact-fingers 10, and is mounted on insulating support 14 secured to sleeve 15 which is threaded into insulating bush 16. The contact 4 screws into metal sleeve 17 which is connected to a similar sleeve 19 and contact 22 (for lead-in 25) over a conductor 18, around an insulating bush 27 of which is a ring or like current transformer 29. Part 28 of the casing has bosses 30a on which rest an insulating plate 30 and metal cover 31 having a lifting-eye 42. Threaded into contacts 4, 22 are insulating sleeves 32, 36, which threadedly engage caps 33, 37, respectively, for supporting the various parts from the top plates 30, 31, insulating sleeves 34 serving to locate the parts in position. A cover 40 carrying the casing 41 of the operating gear, closes the whole tank. In a multi-pole structure, a common tank could be provided for all the poles, or, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), three such structures as shown in Figs. 1, 2 could be mounted one behind the other on a common bus-bar chamber and have a common junction box, cover, and operating mechanism. The Specification refers also to laterally-entering lead-in conductors, and to other modifications in details. In Fig. 5, the fingers 3, 5 are adapted to be bridged by a fusible element 49 stretched between contacts 47, 48 which are spaced apart by parallel insulating-rods 46.
