Abstract

518,051. Roofs for buildings. HURDEN, E. Sept. 19, 1938, Nos. 27297, and 31757. [Class 20 (iv)] An asbestos cement tile or sheet covering A for a roof is provided with a reserve supporting structure B, which normally does not take any of the weight of the covering but which is sufficiently strong to bear the weight of a man should the tiles or sheet covering give way. The reserve support comprises ropes, rods, tubes, bars, or strips of metal or wood, or sheets of textile fabric, wire netting, this support being anchored to the purlins or other parts of the roof framing, e.g., in the case of rods B, by hooks E engaging over purlins C, as shown in Fig. 3. If the reserve support is a parallel series of flat steel bars, each bar may comprise two elements F', F<1>, Fig. 6, clipped together by a clip J which permits extension of the bar. Strips of felt G may be placed between the support B and roofing sheets A. Specifications 466,776 and 510,555 are referred to.
