Abstract

518,022. Piston extrusion apparatus. WICKSTEED, R. Aug. 10, 1938, No. 23618. [Class 102 (ii)] A portable device for delivering small metered quantities of weed-killing or other liquid comprises a hand operated trigger or lever and associated means for effecting the passage of a predetermined quantity of liquid from a reservoir to a delivery nozzle. In the form shown, a reservoir 10 with a nozzle 12 serves as a cylinder for a piston 11 operated by a trigger 24, the piston rod 14 being screw threaded and carrying a ratchet wheel 18. The latter is held against the closure cap 16 of the cylinder by an abutment 19 and is engaged by a flat spring strip 26 which engages in a slot in an offset extension 25 of the trigger and is held therein by a spring 27. The butt 20 is formed with a trough portion 29, the upper edges of which are engaged by arms 36 at the rear end of the piston rod 14 to prevent rotation of the piston, the cylinder 10 and butt 20 being retained in the normal position by means of a light spring 33. A transverse rod 37 cut away at 38 forms a stop for the extension 25, and, according to its two positions, as indicated by a member 39, determines the stroke of the trigger and the number of teeth on the ratchet 18 which are advanced for each movement of the trigger.
