517,312. Plate heat-exchangers. PERSSON, R. A., and NAUCLER, J. O. May 21, 1938, No. 29979/39. Convention date, May 22, 1937. Divided out of 517,215. [Class 64 (iii)] In a heat-exchanger with a series of co-axial spirally-corrugated plates 10 forming passages for the fluids between which heat is to be exchanged, the apices of the corrugations extend identically from the periphery to the central portion, -and openings 24a, 25a, 27a, 28a forming inlets and outlets are identically placed; the .plates are then superposed so that the crests of the corrugations on sides facing each other of adjacent plates of the series coincide to form closed spiral passages for the fluids and the inlet and outlet openings register. The plates of thi: series are identical and are spaced by inner anc outer rings 23, 22 of hard rubber and are clamped between covers 34, 35 having inlets 41, 44 communicating with ducts 30 ... 33 formed by aligned ports 24, 25, 27, 28 in the spacing rings Fluid admitted to duct 30 passes through openings 26 in the alternate rings 22 into the spiral passages and then through openings 29 in the inner rings 23 and the duct 33 to the outlet 42. Both fluids may however pass in the same direction. Plane uncorrugated plates may be placed between the corrugated plates. Two or more corrugations in parallel with corresponding inlets and outlets may be formed in each plate. Specification 517,215 is referred to.
