[Class 6 (i)] A machine for sowing seeds and depositing fertilizers is provided with distributers in the form of rollers 13 having peripheral recesses 14<1>, 15<1>, 16<1> of different sizes, any one of which can be brought into position for use beneath the hopper by turning the roller on its axle 18 and clamping it to the axle in the required position. The rollers are given an oscillatory motion the amplitude or angular position of which can be varied to vary the quantity of seed to be deposited and to vary the proportion between the seed and fertilizer. Fig. 1 shows a machine having a hopper 5 divided by a partition 7 into two compartments for receiving two materials to be deposited. The hopper is hinged at 6 to the frame and contains stirrers 9 driven by lever mechanism from the distributing rollers 13, which are oscillated by links 31, 25, 29 by a cam 27 on the front wheel. The amplitude of the oscillations can be varied by adjusting the links or exchanging the cams, or the extreme angular positions of the rollers can be varied without altering the amplitude of their oscillations. Corrugated vanes 23, 24 extending half the width of the rollers 13, oscillate therewith and serve to distribute the seed &c. laterally. The seed &c. may pass through a sowing share 11 provided with apertures 44, Fig. 7, and adjustable deflecting plates 45 which when the apertures are closed scatter the seed in the furrow and when the apertures are open broadcast it outside the furrow. Blades 48 behind the share mix earth with material passing through the apertures and earth up the rows of seeds.
