R., [trading as ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ CHEMISCHE FABRIK DOLAU]. Feb. 3, 1938, Nos. 3460 and 3462. Convention dates, Feb. 3, 1937, and April 7,1937. '[Classes 2 (ii) and 2 (iii)] The adhesion of regenerated cellulose fibres for use in spinning is reduced by treating the fibres with high molecular ethers of oxyalkylamines, their salts, or quaternary ammonium compounds derived therefrom. The term " high molecular ethers" denotes ethers ob-. tained by etherifying oxyalkylamines with alcohols having at least 8 carbon atoms in the molecule. The quaternary ammonium compounds employed may be prepared by reacting the high molecular ethers of the oxyalkylamine bases with alkylene oxides, alkylene halogen hydrins, alkyl halides, alkyl sulphates and other compounds. The process also imparts a high softness to the spinning fibres. If this is too great, it may be reduced by additions of albumen substances, carbohydrates, soaps and/or fatty sulpho-compounds. In examples (1) cellulose spinning fibre is treated at 60‹C. in a bath containing 2.0 gm. per litre of a formic acid salt of the dicetyl ether of triethanolamine; (2) a solution of the dicetyl ether of tetraethanolammonium chloride is sprayed at 80‹C. on to freshly spun cellulose spinning fibre produced from viscose. Specification 466,817 is referred to. Tetraethanolammonium chloride dicetyl ether is prepared by reacting the dicetyl ether of triethanolamine with ethylene chlorhydrin. Specification 420,812 also is referred to.
