Abstract

516,666. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., LIDDIARD, H. W. C., and PETCH, T. H. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 4977/38. [Class 38 (iii)] Braking.-In a haulage system in which means effect disconnection of the driving motor 1 from its source of normal frequency and connection to a source of low frequency when the cage is a predetermined distance from its checking level, variable resistance is inserted in the rotor circuit of the motor when the low frequency connection is made so that the braking torque ,can be regulated. For normal operation the appropriate reversing contactor 5 or 6 is operated, and an associated contactor 3 or 4 also operated to prepare the low frequency connection. Limit switches effect opening of the main contactor 5 or 6 and closure of a contactor 7 so that the motor is connected to the low frequency supply which may be given by a Scherbius type machine 2. Simultaneously resistance is inserted in the rotor circuit and cut out in steps. At the checking level a switch disconnects the motor and a brake is applied. Specification 512,237 is referred to.
