Abstract

515,811. Cleaning heat-exchanger tubes. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and ROBSON, F. June 24, 1938, No. 18762. [Class 99 (ii)] In a heat-exchanger of the kind in which one fluid passes through tubes b and another fluid is passed through the casing a around the tubes the outsides of the tubes are cleaned by closing the inlet c and outlet d, filling the casing at q with a cleansing liquid, and setting up a circulation of the cleanser by injecting steam through a nozzle i. The cover o and plug l are removed from the nozzle which is connected to a steam supply pipe. The nozzle is raised from its seat in the end of a pipe e so that cleansing liquid may be drawn in by the steam through ports m. Circulation is facilitated by a conical baffle t opposite the flared outlet of the pipe e. Scum is withdrawn at p. In a modificaiion the steam nozzle and a circulation control valve are arranged in a passage at ' the side of the casing.
