[Class 36] [Also in Group IV] An insulated conductor comprises a conducting core to which a flexible substantially continuous homogeneous layer of cellulose ester is applied, a layer of fibrous fire-proof material being superimposed. A further layer of the fire-proof material may be applied below the cellulose ester. The cellulose ester preferably comprises cellulose acetate with an addition of 25 to 45 parts by weight of tripropionin, and is extruded. The fire-proof layer may consist of felted asbestos and may be treated with moisture and flame-proofing material. An outer coating, preferably of woven fabric coated or treated to render it wear-resisting and flame-proof, may also be applied.
