Abstract

515,572. Mattresses. EARLE, R. W. June 3, 1938, No. 16726. [Class 52 (iv)] Means for tufting mattresses and the like comprises 'two frames 10, 11 each carrying a series of spaced bars 17 and arranged one on each side of the mattress with the bars in engagement with the mattress surface, the frames 10, 11 being hinged together in spaced relation at one edge and provided with a catch at the other edge for maintaining the frames parallel. The mattress is positioned on the frame 10 when the latter is lowered to horizontal position and is clamped by lowering the other frame 11 upon the mattress and engaging the catch 19, 21. The frames 10, 11 with the mattress are then swung upwardly to vertical position and clamped to a frame 15, 16 by clamp 27. In tufting the tape &c. 41, having an enlargement at each end is threaded on a needle 40 and passed through apertures 18 in the angle bars 17 and through the mattress. To release the mattress the frames 10, 11 are lowered and a pivoted weight 24 is caused to release the catch 19, 21.
