Abstract
513,276. Coating metals ; alloys. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and SHEEHAN, J. J. April 4, 1938, Nos. 10199 and 31838. [Classes 82 (i) and 82 (ii)] An element intended for heating while immersed in a bath of molten metal has at least the outer surface formed of an alloy of iron with chromium or aluminium or both, and a protective coating comprising oxide formed from the chromium and/or aluminium of the alloy. The coating is formed by heating to about 1,000‹C. in the presence of air or oxygen. A further coating of siliceous material may then be applied and the element then heated to about 200‹C. for drying and finally to a temperature near its melting point. The second Provisional Specification refers to an alloy comprising about 60 per cent. of iron, 35 per cent. of chromium, 1 per cent. of silicon, 3 per cent. of carbon, phosphorus up to 0.04 per cent., sulphur up to 0.04 per cent., and manganese up to 0.4 per cent.
