[Class 135] [Also in Group XXIV] The suction throttle of a supercharger driven through change-speed gearing is connected to the gear control to effect a step-up of the gear when the throttle is nearly fully open and a step-down when nearly closed. In Fig. 1, the throttle 5 is actuated by a manual control 12, 13, valve 2 and piston 3 of a servomotor, and link 4, an expansible diaphragm 1 exposed to the supercharging pressure being inserted before valve 2. Link 4 is connected through a slotted rod 6 and toggle switch 7, 8 with the valve 9 of a servo-piston coupled by rod 11 to the brake of a change-speed gear. The switch 7, 8 may act directly on the gear. The diaphragm 1 corrects the position of the throttle after a gear change to maintain a constant pressure. In a modification, Fig. 3, throttle 5 is actuated direct by a rod 14 and links 15, the latter also being connected by a link 16 and lever 17 to the gear rod 11. When the throttle has been moved to one extreme position so as to cause a gear change, rods 11 and 16 will return the throttle so as to keep the charging pressure substantially constant.
