Abstract

512,651. Spray-producers. BROWN, T. T., and SWINNEY BROS., Ltd. March 29, 1939, No. 9809. [Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Group XVII] A tank cleaning apparatus comprises a body 1 through which passes a sleeve 9 capable of being turned either manually or automatically about its axis and carrying at its lower end nozzles 10 mounted to turn on a cross piece 12 and connected by links 17 to a ring 19 mounted to rotate on the body 1. On raising or lowering the sleeve 9 the nozzles 10 are rotated on an axis normal to the axis of the body. In the form shown the body is clamped in a manhole of the tank and the sleeve 9 is rotated by a handle 29, and raised and lowered by a handle 28 provided with a screw 27 engaging a nut 34 which may be locked by a screw 37. Passages 7, 8 are provided for water and steam, but in a modification a single passage may be employed. In a further modification the sleeve 9 is raised and lowered by hand, but is rotated about a vertical axis by vanes in the nozzle mounting. Axle bearings may be provided to reduce friction.
