Abstract

512,649. Yarns and fabrics. MASLAND & SONS, Inc., C. H. May 23, 1938, No. 15328. Convention date, June 12, 1937. Drawings to Specification. [Class 120 (iii)] A face yarn, particularly a pile yarn for carpets and rugs, is made of at least 20 per cent. of artificial textile fibre of substantially uniform cross-sectional area throughout the individual fibre and of average diameter between 37 and 75 microns, more than 80 per cent. of the cross-sectioned periphery of the fibre being on a radius greater than 4 microns and such periphery being substantially free from re-entrant curves on a radius of less than 4 microns; such a yarn possesses a reduced tendency to retain dust. The artificial fibre may be continuous filament or staple fibre and may be composed of cellulose or a derivative thereof or casein and may be blended with up to 80 per cent. of natural fibre, e.g., carpet wool. The cross-sectional periphery of the artificial fibre may be undulating or may be a generally smooth closed curve free from all curves on a radius of less than 4 microns.
