Abstract
512,551. Homogenizing soap. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C. (Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co.). Dec. 28, 1938, No. 37653. [Class 91] Homogeneous soap free from striations, hard particles and air pockets is made by feeding milled partially dried soap into an opening 10 at the end of a cylinder 12 containing a worm 11, and surrounded by a jacket 27 maintained at 80‹F. by cooling water. The compressed soap is forced through 'a grinding head 13, and foraminous plate 14 having conical-shaped holes of about 12-15 thousandths inch diameter. The filaments of soap free from hard particles thus formed are severed by a rotating knife 18, and the soap pieces fall on to a second worm 21 working in a vacuum. The soap is worked and compressed to remove occluded air, and is then forced through a nozzle 23, heated to about 110-118‹F. to form a continuous bar of soap. A vacuum pump is attached at 36.
