Abstract

512,540. Picking hops. GRAY, C. J., and GUINNESS, SON & CO., Ltd., A. Aug. 20, 1938, No. 24574. [Class 6 (iii)] A hop-picking machine of the type in which the cut bines are attached to a conveyer which draws them past one or more series of transverse rows of picking fingers carried upon rotating drums, chains or the like has picking fingers in the form of U-shaped wire loops 18 the ends of the parallel shanks of the loops being bent to form eyes 18b secured to transverse bars 9 by screws 19: the intermediate portion of each shank is bent into the form of a short helical spring 18c which loosely encircles a circular rod 17. The fingers have their transverse members 18a V-shaped or sinuous and each row is staggered with reference to the preceding row. The bars 9 and 17 extend between endless chains 8 carried by a pair of sprocket wheels. Specification 506,703 is referred to.
