Abstract

842,423. Root-crop harvesters. STANDEN & SONS Ltd., F. A., and STANDEN, P. Aug. 8, 1958 [Dec. 3, 1957], No. 25460/58. Divided out of 842,422. Class 6(3). A root-crop harvester has a pair of lifting shares 4 and a pair of superimposed endless link-conveyers 5, 6, arranged behind the shares, the lower run of the upper conveyer 6 being extended forwardly over the shares, and the links of the two conveyers being serrated transversely across most of their width. The conveyers are driven by sprockets 11, 12 at their upper ends, the lower runs passing over idlers. Two idlers 37, 38 are arranged above the shares 4 so that the portion 39 of the upper conveyer sweeps the crop into the space between the conveyers. The lower conveyer extends upwardly beyond the end of the upper, and a sagging stationary link-chain 9 is arranged to contact its upper run in this region. The links of the conveyers are shaped as in Fig. 3, each with a central serrated portion 14 and straight outer portions 15 terminating in hooks 16 which engage the adjacent link. In the case of the conveyer 5, the serrations extend upwardly above the plane of the conveyer-run but in the conveyer 6 and the chain 9 the links are inverted so that the serrations are pendent.
