[Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] Pivot or joint pins of the valve gear of internal - combustion engines are locked or secured in position in the holes of a gapped or forked member by means of a stirrup or U-shaped member of spring material, the arms of which engage grooves in the outer sides of the forked member and in the ends of the pivot pin so as to prevent lateral and rotational movement of the latter. Fig. II shows a valveactuating rocker 1 carrying a cam-engaging roller 3 in a forked end 2 by means of a pivot pin 4, which is locked in position by a U-shaped spring member 7, the arms of which engage grooves formed across bosses 5 on the rocker and in the ends of the pin. The inner ends of the member 7 engage shoulders 8. In a modification, Fig. III, a spring stirrup 15 provides an edge 14 engaging flats 13 formed across the bosses and the pin, the stirrup also embracing raised portions 17 on each arm of the forked end of the rocker.
