[Class 37] A plate of insulating material is mounted so as to be moved rectilinearly across another, each plate bearing metallic layer electrodes, one or both of which being of strip form with the separate strips mounted transversely to the line of movement. Additionally, the plate or base may be built up of strips of dielectric materials of different capacity-temperature characteristics. In the example, Fig. 3, a variable condenser comprises strip electrodes C, E, borne respectively by plates A, B, the plate B constituting the dielectric. Fig 5 shows a condenser of fixed capacity, the movable dielectric plate being constituted by strips H, H\ of differing capacity-temperature characteristics, and of thickness corresponding inversely to their dielectric constant. The electrode C borne by the base A is in strip form, while that, J, borne by the moving plate, is continuous, as shown, but may be also in strip form, the strips of dielectric being of unequal width and each strip having part only of its surface covered by an electrode layer J. A condenser is also described of variable capacity and of fixed capacity-temperature coefficient employing a dielectric with strips of unequal width and strip electrodes mounted on the movable plate and the base. The movable plate may be caused to move over the base in any of these forms by means of a disc with pin and slot connections or by means of an arm mounted on one side with a depending pin engaging a recess in the moving plate.
