Abstract
510,992. Tetrazylazides. DYNAMIT-AKT.- GES. VORM A. NOBEL & CO., and FRIEDERICH, W. Aug. 4, 1938, No. 23120. [Class 2(iii)] [Also in Group XXI] Explosives or priming substances are produced by the interaction of salts of tetrazylazide with chlorides, sulphates or nitro-compounds of organic bodies in aqueous solution or in solution in organic solvent. Examples mentioned are methyltetrazylazide, ethyltetrazyl azide, ethylene ditetrazyl azide, mono- and di-tetrazyl azide of acetone,. picryltetrazyl azide and trinitrophenylamino-tetrazylazide. Methyltetrazylazide is obtained by adding methyl chloride or methyl sulphate to a salt, e.g. the sodium salt of tetrazylazide, whilst the mono- and di-tetrazyl azides of acetone are formed by interacting mono- and di-chloracetone respectively with an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of tetrazylazide, preferably in stoichiometric proportions. Picryltetrazyl azide is obtained by interacting equimolecular quantities of picryl chloride and a salt of tetrazylazide, e.g. the sodium salt, in a non-aqueous solvent, such as acetone, or in a solvent which contains only small amounts of water, whilst trinitrophenylamino-tetrazylazide is formed analogously from tetranitroaniline and an alkali metal tetrazylazide.
