Abstract

461,647. Gas - cooling compositions. TAYLOR, J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 21, 1935, Nos. 23518/35 and 23094/36. [Class 9 (ii)] A gas-evolving composition, especially for use in a blasting device as claimed in Specification 431,935. comprises a mixture of an alkali metal nitrate and an ammonium salt together with a small proportion (say. 0'5 to 5À0 per cent) of a stabilizer consisting of a solid inorganic material of alkaline reaction, and low solubility in water, and capable of undergoing only slow metathesis with the said ammonium salt, for example an oxide of an alkaline earth metal or magnesium or zinc, or a salt of such metals with a weak acid such as carbonic acid, or a compound of such metals capable of reacting with water vapour such as a carbide. Preferably, the material should have a dehydrating action. Several examples are described. Specifications 399,173, [Group III], and 436,144 are referred to for similar blasting devices and compositions.
