Abstract
510,502. High-tension switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 29, 1938, Nos. 37739 and 37740. Convention dates, Dec. 29, 1937, and Jan. 21, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] A combined isolator and power circuit breaker comprises a switching head having a gas blast contact, the switching head being arranged for movement in an axial direction this movement being obtained by mounting it on a supporting tube which conveys pressure gas to the contact and which is connected to a piston sliding in a cylinder to which pressure gas is supplied for actuating the piston, thus isolating the contacts. In Fig. 1 a switching head 1, carrying a contact 3 within an insulating nozzle 6, is supported on a tube 8 which is attached to a piston 9 moving in a cylinder 10, built into an insulator 15. For making the contact, pressure gas through the tube 12 passes to the rear of the piston by way of a hollow shell 13. For breaking the contact, pressure gas through tube 11 passes into the cylinder, thus driving back the piston, and through ports 14 to the switch head to drive back piston 4 against action of spring 5. 7 and 17 are sliding contacts and 16 is the terminal. Fig. 2 shows a system of bus bars 21, 22 with switches at 23, 24 for distributing the power from supply lines 18. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement where the cable end sleeves 29 contain the switches.
