Abstract

356,221. Hightension switches. RUPPEL, S., 8, Palmengartenstrasse, Frankfort . on - Main, Germany. June 4, 1930, No. 17334. Convention date, June 3, 1929. [Class 38 (v).] In switches with the arc disrupted by a blast of air and with two breaks per phase or pole, the separate breaks are arranged in separate casings oppositely directed but in line, or disposed at an angle to one another. In.the form shown in Fig. 1 two insulating casings 9, 10 are mounted in line and supported by a member 8 carried by the insulator 11 on the air supply chamber 13. The casings 9, 10 carry the fixed contacts 1 into and out of which the telescoping contacts 2 move under pneumatic action. The movable contacts are supported within the insulating cylinder 4 carried by the air-supply tube 12, and are provided with pistons 3. When air pressure is supplied to the inside of the tube 12 the contacts 2 are forced apart into engagement with the fixed contacts ; when the pressure is supplied to the space between the tube 12 and the insulator 11 the contacts are forced away from the fixed contacts and the arc extinguished by the escaping air blast. In an alternative construction the insulators 9, 10 are inclined to one another in V-form, the contact-members being operated independently. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 3 the switch is operated by manual or other operation of the shaft 30 which causes movement of the actuating link 28 within the supporting insulator 11. The link 28 is connected through further links 24, 23 to a link 22 jointed to the rectilinearly moving contactmember 2. This construction is duplicated for the two breaks which are disposed in the insulators 9, 10 inclined to one another and both are operated, together, by the mechanism described which for a small movement of the operating shaft gives a large movement of the contact rods. The air blast is supplied through the pipes 17, 18.
