Abstract
509,979. Spectacles. CSEREP, S. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33973. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1937. [Class 97 (i)] In a frame for bifocal spectacles, having a rigid bridge connecting the rims and a nose rest behind the bridge and vertically adjustable in relation thereto to enable the lenses to be moved up or down in front of the eyes, the ends of the nose rest have attached thereto wires &c. guided around the peripheries of the rims and held in any adjusted position by their own resilience. As shown, the rear surface of each rim 2 is provided with two channels 5, 6 through which passes the wire 7 connected to the nose rest 4. In the gap between the channels the wire carries a stop 8 having a thumb-piece 9 so that the length of this gap determines the distance through which the rest 4 can be moved. The natural shape of the wire is such that it has to be constrained to enter the channels so that it bears on them frictionally by its own resiliency. By drawing together the thumb-pieces, the rest 4 is lowered so that the lenses are raised in relation to the eyes to facilitate the use of the reading segments 1b.
