Abstract

509,971. Arsenates. STALHANE, J. B. Oct. 22, 1938, No. 30575. [Class 1 (iii)] In a process for the continuous production of arsenates, particularly basic calcium arsenate, by oxidation of the corresponding arsenite with air or oxygen for instance in a rotary furnace, the pulverulent initial material is mixed with grains or pieces of a material which does not take part in the chemical reaction 'and the oxidizing gas is led through the furnace in the same direction as the charge, whereby caking together of the latter is prevented. Metals, alloys, or ceramic material may be used as the chemically inert material. Its grain size is preferably 1-20 mms. and it should constitute at least 25 per cent. of the charge. The reaction may take place at 300-800‹C., and the product before leaving the furnace pass through a zone at 800-1,000‹C. to remove any arsenious oxide still present. Arsenates of alkali metals, lead, barium and magnesium are also referred to.
