Abstract

509,541. Spray-producers. DE VILBISS CO. Aug. 16, 1938, No. 24150. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1937. [Class 69 (iii)] A paint sprayer for forming flat sprays comprises a spray nozzle formed rearwardly of a slot shaped orifice 9 in a spray discharge nozzle and having means provided for broadening the material stream in a direction transverse to the discharge slot as the material passes between the discharge nozzle and the slot. The spray pistol may be the same as is described in U.S.A. Specification 2,060,894 except for the spray head which comprises three concentric nozzles, a central nozzle delivering material to be sprayed regulated by the usual needle valve 5 an intermediate nozzle 3 supplied with compressed air for atomizing the material and provided with opposite air jets 28 for intimately mixing the spray and air behind the outer delivery nozzle 2 which is formed with a longitudinal discharge slot 9 and auxiliary air jets 25 for restriction of the effective width of the slot. The outer nozzle is provided with a conical recess 20 having a rounded outer end to form a mixing chamber and the air nozzle 7 has diametrically opposite notches 22, Fig. 4, at right angles to the slot 9. Supply to the jets 25 is controlled by a valve 17, Fig. 1, in an air passage leading to a baffled passage 15 communicating with an annulus 11.
