508,749. Stuffing-box packing. THUNHOLM, K. L. E. Aug. 18, 1938, No. 24357. Convention date, Sept. 6, 1937. [Class 122 (v)] Closed packing-rings 4 of U cross-section having cylindrical bearing surfaces are deformed by axial pressure acting at a radial distance from the bearing surface. The rings may move radially in the box. The flanges of the rings may be inclined outwardly or may have axial extensions. Alternatively, the flanges may be at right angles to the rod, intermediate rings being provided to transmit pressure to the outer edges thereof. A film of anti-friction metal may be. provided on the ring bearing surfaces and soft packing 5 may be provided between the rings. Lubricating oil is retained in the box by packing 10.
