Abstract
508,275. Making closure caps. AMERICAN CAN CO. Oct. 24, 1938, No. 30733. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1937. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] Metal or fibre articles such as container caps A are produced from a continuously moving web B fed from a reel C. and subjected to a series of operations including printing, varnishing, drying and cooling, drawing and stamping. Feed rolls 5, 6 deliver the web to a lithographic printing-couple 11, 12 and after passing through a varnishing or lacquering machine F, feed rolls 29, 39 guide the web through a heating-chamber 25 and cooling-chamber 35, and continuously moving feed rolls 43, 44 from the printed web into a loop 47 from which the web is advanced by intermittently operated feed rollers 48, 49 to a combined blanking punch 53 and drawing or forming punch 58 with which is associated a forming-die or anvil 59 located in the stationary blanking-die 52. The caps A are received in a receptacle 62 and the waste strip removed by rollers 65, 66 operated intermittently in synchronism with the rollers 48, 49. A gauging-finger 56 cooperating with an aperture blank in the strip registers the web for the stamping operation, and ejection-pins 61 eject the finished cap.
