466,278. Scoring, cutting, and printing cardboard blanks. BOBST & FILS SOC. ANON., J. Nov. 25, 1935, No. 32637. Convention date, May 10. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] Printed cardboard blanks for use in the manufacture of boxes, cartons, and the like are made from a roll of cardboard 1 by first imparting a continuous movement to the material and longitudinally-scoring it during such movement, and then giving this material an intermittent movement, during the stationary intervals of which the material is slotted or cut out and transversely scored, the material finally being cut into blanks for transfer to the printing- device. The cardboard 5 passes from the roll 1 between continuously-rotating feed-rollers 10 and longitudinally-scoring cylinders 8, 9. It is allowed to form a loop between the devices 8, 9, 10 and intermittently-operating feedrollers 14 which forward it past slotting or cutting-out knives 15, transversely-scoring devices 16, and a blank-severing knife 4 which operate when the material is stationary. Jaws 22 guide the material leaving the knife 4 and grip it during the cutting operation. A continuously-rotating segmental roller 20 cooperating with a roller 19 feeds the cut blank into the printing-machine shown as comprising three units 26, 27, 28 which are adjustable in the direction of travel of the material. The periphery of each roller corresponds to the largest size of blank to be made, the adjustment of the feed-rollers 14 and the size of the printing-plate used being made to correspond to the actual size of blank to be made. The blanks may be fed transversely of their original direction of travel into the printing-machine.
