Bending.-In a machine for making cardboard boxes, the blanks are, at one end of the machine, cut out by a reciprocating cutter 29 acting against a fixed counterknife 36. Reciprocating stamps 35, 41 then press up the sides of the blank into box form, whereupon spring arms 52 are operated by a cone cam-piece 45 upon a spring bolt, which is pushed longitudinally by a spring &c. bolt carrying the stamp 41. Metal binding-strips m, fed in the usual manner from rollers 55, are pressed on to the edges of the box by the grooved heads 54, adjustably hinged to the arms 52, and are severed in the usual way. The stamps 35, 41 may be engraved in order to impress the bottom of the box with a design &c. When the stamps 35, 41 return, the finished box is delivered from the machine. Adjustments for the heads 54 are provided at 53 and 60. The machine may be modified to produce boxes of round or oval form.
