[Class 64 (iii)] In a heat-exchanger of the kind comprising a number of, e.g., transversely corrugated plates 16, 25, Figs. 1, 2, respectively, alternately disposed and clamped together to form flow spaces for the fluids between which heat is to be exchanged, the plates 26 have marginal grooves pressed &c. in opposite faces thereof for packing strips 7, 8 which extend around three sides of the fluid transfer ports 18, and which are of reduced depth at the points 30, 31 at which they cross each other. The ports are provided with peripheral grooves for packing strips 40, 42 which are of reduced depth along the edges adjacent the spaces between the plates, as shown in Fig. 3, to permit flow of the fluids. The grooves around the ports may be provided along the reduced edges with spacing projections 50. The packing strips 7, 8 may be supported at their crossing points by metal inserts 54, Fig. 8, and the grooves for said strips may be of the form shown in Figs. 10, 11.
