Abstract

1503012 Plate heat exchangers G A DE LEPELEIRE 6 Feb 1975 [6 Feb 1974] 5105/75 Heading F4S In a plate heat exchanger comprising parallel plates defining passageways S1 S2 for the heat exchanging fluids, each plate interspace S1 or S2 has at the ends thereof a plurality of openings (e.g. I1, I2, 02) forming fluid inlets and outlets which communicate respectively with subheaders CI2 and CO2 for the S2 interspaces and with corresponding subheaders for the S1 interspaces (only the corresponding inlet subheader CI1 is visible in the drawings), the subheaders communicating with main headers CCI1 and CCO1 for one fluid and with main headers CCI2 and CCO2 for the other fluid, all the headers being generally prismatic in form and each providing, in the general direction of fluid flow thereinto, a flow area of generally rectangular cross-section. The subheaders are triangular in shape at right angles to the direction of fluid flow therethrough. The plate interspaces may be defined by separate plates sealed together at their longitudinal edge portions (Figs. 4, 5, 6a and 6b), or by folds in a sinuously folded plate (Fig. 8). The plates may be formed by pressing with a pattern of projections and indentations (Figs. 1 and 2).
