Abstract
507,865. Agricultural drainage ; conduits. SMITH, F. H. Feb. 24, 1938, No. 5909. [Class 33] A conduit system for the surface drainage of ground comprises a monolithic concrete block cast directly in situ without joints and provided with one or more longitudinal channels 3, the lower part 1 of the block being in ordinary concrete, and the upper part 2 in porous concrete i.e. concrete made from gravel and cement. The conduit may be sunk or flush with the surface, and its upper surface may be flat, concave, or convex, according to the nature of the ground and drainage water. The channel may be made during the casting process by the method described in Specification 355,517, [Group V]. The porous part of the conduit may be provided with transverse gaps, spaced apart according to the nature of the ground. The conduit may be sunk in a vertical sided or tapering trench and be covered with rubble or gravel.
