Abstract
480,911. Quay walls. COMPAGNIE INTERNATIONALE DES PIEUX ARMES FRANKIGNOUL SOC. ANON. Feb. 1, 1937, No. 2869. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1936. [Class 68 (ii)] A quay wall is constructed of two superposed parts each comprising hollow precast concrete shells, the lower shells being filled with suitable material and solidly anchored in the ground by foundation knife edges 6 and the upper shells being hollow to act as storage chambers. The lower shells are provided at the top with a girder 8 and cornices 9 carrying upward projections 11 and are strengthened by perforated lateral walls 5 and if necessary by solid end walls. The upper shells are provided with solid and perforated transverse walls and, on the water side, have parallel vertical walls 18, 19 suitably cross braced, the space between them being filled with concrete. The upper shells are provided with a channel 24, having a permeable wall 26 on the land side to collect leakage which is discharged by pumping and have a channel 15 at the bottom. They have an opening in the ceiling 21 closed by slabs 22 and covered with earth &c. which serves as a bed for a roadway or railway track 32. The interior of the upper shells may be rendered fluid-tight by a metal or other covering.
