Abstract

507,675. Winches. KEITH BLACKMAN. Ltd., and KEITH, G. Jan. 13, 1938, No. 1144. [Class 78 (v)] In winches having tapes as load-supporting elements and an automatic stop device comprising a spring-pressed pawl which bears on the tape wound on the drum until said tape is nearly all unwound to prevent the last portion of tape being unwound and the rotation of the drum being continued to start re-winding of the tape in the opposite sense, the stop consists of a. spring-pressed detent 6 pivoted to the casing 5 and bearing normally on the outer surface' of the wound-up tape. When the last portion of tape passes from under the detent, this falls into a step 7 in the boss of the drum and arrests same. The inner end of the tape 3 is coiled into an elongated eye 8 which is accommodated in a radial socket 9 in the drum boss, and may be further secured by a pin 10 screwed into the boss. A service hole in the casing 5 permits of ready removal of the pin.
