This invention relates to an anchoring and identifying tripod for tape recorders.
An object of the invention is the provision of a device that is used for anchoring tape upon a reel in an efiicient manner.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an efficient and simple device which can be easily placed upon a reel to lock the tape wound thereon in an eflicient manner, whereby the tape is held against accidental unwinding.
A further object of the invention is the provision of simple and efiicient means for identifying the contents of the tape on a reel.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail sectional view on line 5-5, Figure 4.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a plate, which is preferably triangular in shape and which is provided preferably with a comparatively large aperture 2 at its center. The reel 4 has a hub 3, on which is wound tape 5. The tape 5 is brought in under the plate 1 between the legs and passed half way around leg 7, as seen in Figure 3, and then back through the slot 6. Then the whole plate is turned one-fourth of a turn as shown by the arrow head to lock the tape on the anchoring plate. The title arrowhead-like indicators can be made in various colors to distinguish one title from another. The user can tell what recording is available by the color code.
The three legs of the device include the long slit leg 7 and the two short legs 8 and 9. The legs 8 and 9 are the same length, whereas the slit leg 7 is much longer. In placing the device upon the reel 4, the short legs 3 and 9 are placed in holes 10 and 11, whereas long leg 7 is placed in the hole 12, Figure 3.
Betweenthe short legs 8 and 9, the plate is undercut to provide a finger grip, as shown in Figures 1 and 4, for easy handling for moving from reel to reel.
Short legs 8 and 9 are undercut, as shown in Figure 5, to help anchor them to the recording reel.
The top of the plate 1 is roughened with 00* emery cloth to make a Writing surface which will be satisfactory for pen or pencil writing for identification purpose.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A tape reel comprising a central hub having an axial bore extending therethrough, a pair of circular flanges mounted on said hub in spaced apart parallel relation, said hub having a plurality of spaced apart bores formed therein spaced outwardly from said axial bore with at least one of said bores having a slot opening through the periphery of said hub, a plate, a leg secured to said plate releasably engaging in said one bore and a pair of legs secured to said plate for releasable engagement in a pair of said plurality of bores different from said one bore, said last named legs having a substantially shorter length than said first named leg, said first named leg being provided with a tape receiving slot for securing tape to said reel.
