Abstract
507,348. Clocks and watches. MAGNUS, H. F. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1778. [Class 139] A watch or clock 5 is rockably mounted in an additional outer case 1 and is allowed or caused to rock upwards through an opening 2 in the outer case when this opening'is uncovered by a flexible sliding shutter 4. A plate 3, on the inner face of each side wall of the outer case, has inwardly projecting flanges 3b, 3c forming a guide groove for the shutter 4 which consists of canvas to which are attached parallel metal strips. The watch 5 has a plate 5a pivoted at 6 to the outer case 1 and about one pin 6 is a spring 7 which rocks the watch up to exposed position when the shutter 4 is moved left to uncover the opening 2 by means of its end piece 4a. The rear end 1c of the case 1 is preferably detachably held by screws 8, and a plate 9 hides the flanges 3b, 3c and shutter 4 in the bottom of the case. When piece 4a is moved to the right it forces the watch down. Flange 3b may be dispensed with, the casing 1 functioning in its stead. The watch 5 may. be pivoted at the other end of case 1 and connected by levers to shutter 4 so that it rises and falls as the shutter uncovers and covers the opening.
