Abstract
507,150. Refrigerating; refrigerators. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34062. Convention date, Jan. 29. [Class 29] Compression machines.-A part of a capillary tube 21 conveying liquefied refrigerant to the evaporator 24 is cooled by heat exchange with the suction conduit 25 at a point entirely outside the evaporator, to retard evaporation in the tube until the refrigerant reaches the evaporator. The heat exchanger may be formed by winding the capillary tube around the suction conduit, which is also coiled, and beyond the exchanger the capillary tube may be wound into a small coil 23. The heat exchanger and the capillary coil are embedded in the insulation 37 of a removable closure member 35 for the wall opening through which the evaporator is introduced into a refrigerating cabinet 31. The arrangement is described as applied to a compression machine having an air-cooled condenser, a sheet metal evaporator of the flooded type, and a thermal motor-control switch.
