Abstract

506,721. Waterproofing, anticrease finishing, delustring, and stiffening of textiles. TOOTAL BROADHURST LEE CO., Ltd., BATTYE, A. E., CANDLIN, E. J., TANKARD, J., CORTEEN, H., and WOOD, F. C. Aug. 27, 1937, No. 20834. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (ii)] (Also in Group VIII] Textile materials are impregnated, to produce a water-repellent and crease-resisting, delustred or stiffened effect, with the'product obtainable by condensing one molecule of a higher fatty urethane with one molecule of formaldehyde in the presence of a tertiary amine and an acid whose anion is a monovalent anion such as -Cl, -Br or -N03 or the monovalent anion of an acid salt of a polyvalent acid with an organic nitrogen base such as -S03 pyridine or -S2O5 pyridine, and with synthetic resin components or their condensation products. The effect may be produced in a onebath process. In an example, urea is condensed with formaldehyde and the solution mixed with a solution of the product sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Velan PF," and tartaric acid. Cotton and viscose rayon fabric are impregnated with the mixture, dried and heated. In another example, spun viscose fabric is immersed in a solution containing urea and formaldehyde, squeezed off and immersed in hydrochloric acid solution until a delustred effect is obtained. The fabric is then waterproofed using " Velan PF." In a further example, spun viscose fabric is treated with Velan PF," dried and heated, and then impregnated with a urea-formaldehyde reaction mixture, dried and again heated. According to the Provisional Specification, synthetic resin components or their condensation products may be employed also in conjunction with the waterproofing compounds described in Specification 466,817, i.e., compounds of the formula R-O-CH2-NR<1>R<11>R<111>Hal. Specification 449,243 also is referred to.
