Abstract

506,407. Gramophones. HIESS, K. Aug. 20, 1937, No. 22929. Void. Convention date, March 1. [Class 40 (ii)] In order to secure accurate continuity in reproduction from a sequence of disc sound records, an apparatus employing two reproducers 37' is used, the reproducers coming into operation alternately. Prior to serial reproduction each record is played while one of the turntable spindles 3' is coupled by a clutch 37 to a counting mechanism which records fractions of a turn, whole turns and units of twenty turns, thereby enabling the precise whole and fractional turns occupied in the idle and playing periods to be determined. The radius vectores corresponding to an arbitrary zero (the end of the first idle turn) and the end of the playing period are marked on each record and the turntables also are marked so that the records may be placed on the turntables with their zero and terminal radius vectores, as above defined, accurately positioned relatively to the arcs of movement of the reproducing styli. A camshaft 31 driven through gearing and a clutch 29 by a motor 24 effects the raising and lowering of the pick-up arms, these arms being lowered on to the records in three stages occurring one at the end of each of the last three idle turns prior to reproduction. The timing of the movements of the shaft 31 to effect the change over from one record to the next is effected bv switches 'controlled by pre-selectors 6, 7, 8, 9 which are successively set in accordance with the ascertained data of the record next to be played.
