Abstract

505,741. Vehicle wheels. FIRESTONE TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd. Sept. 6, 1938, No. 26038. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1937. [Class 144 (i)] A wheel, particularly for use on rail vehicles, comprises tyre and hub members which are resiliently connected by rubber &c. blocks of trapezoidal shape seated in registering recesses in opposed faces of the tyre and hub members. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, three sets of rubber blocks 21, 22, 23 are mounted on the hub-flange 11, a flange 13 integral with the tyre 12, and a closure disc 14, the parts 13, 14 being connected by bolts 19 which pass through bosses 17 on the disc 14. Small clearances are provided between the bosses 17 and apertures 18 in the flange 11 and between the parts 13, 14 and the hub 10. The blocks, which are unattached to their seatings, may be provided with metal facings. To induce a flow of air through the wheel in running, apertures 45 may be provided near the outer periphery of the disc 14. In a modification, the tyre is formed with a central web guided between a side flange on the hub and'an outer closure-disc.
