504,604. Glass manufacture; weighing-apparatus. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd. Oct. 21, 1938, No. 30459. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1937. [Class 56] [Also in Group XVIII] Relates to apparatus for pressing glass in which a predetermined weight of molten glass is poured into a mould 18 from a ladle 30 or the like. According to the invention, the mould 18 is carried on a table 14 which is movable from a position beneath the pressing-plunger 22 to a charging and weighing position where the weight of the mould is transferred from the table 14 to a weighing device 15. The table 14 slides on guides 17 and is moved by a fluid pressure cylinder 11. The mould bottom has depending projections 20 which pass freely through holes in the table 14 and are situated above projections 16 on the platform of the weighing machine when the mould is in the charging position. The weighing machine is put into action by the downward movement of a lever 19 which raises the platform, and this lifts the mould off the table 14. Glass is poured into the mould until the required weight is indicated when the stream is severed either by hand-operated shears 31 or by means controlled by the descending movement of the charged mould. The filled mould is then withdrawn by the cylinder 11 to the pressing- position.
