Abstract

866,707. Moulding perforated tiles &c. INSULWOOL PRODUCTS PROPRIETARY Ltd. Feb. 16, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 5445/60. Class 87(2). In an apparatus for moulding perforated articles on a series of stripper plates 5 which move intermittently to a moulding position, a mould is constituted by, a stripper plate 5 which fits over a base 1 provided with pins 3 to form the lower moulding surface for the article, a movable flask 11 which can seat on or around the stripper plate to form the mould sides, and an upper plate 18 which forms the upper surface of the mould, the apparatus being provided with a mould filling means 20, means such as a ram 2 to apply pressure to the material, and means to move the stripper plate from the moulding position, after the pins 3 have been withdrawn, so that an adjacent stripper plate will be brought into this position. At this position, shown in Fig. 6, the stripper plate 6 is guided by rollers 22 which are mounted on spring rods. The ram actuated spiked base 1 lifts the stripper plate and the flask 11 until the latter abuts the bridge 16 which can resist the upward movement by means of hooks 25. The flask 11 and the stripper plate 6 are then lowered a small amount and the mould is filled from the hopper 20. The bridge 16, supporting the hopper and the upper mould plate 18, is mounted on rollers, and is subsequently moved by a ram 21 until the mould plate 18 is positioned above the stripper plate. The moulding material is then compressed by means of the ram 2 and the spiked base is subsequently withdrawn, lowering the stripper plate on to the slideway 9, Fig. 6. A pawl 23, Fig. 1, is subsequently lowered to engage between two successive stripper plates so that the hopper 20 and an empty stripper plate can be brought over the moulding position simultaneously by means of the ram 21. In a modification the ram 2 and the spiked base 1 are moved whilst the hopper 20 and the upper mould 18 remain stationary.
