Abstract

504,133. Tempering leather. B. B. CHEMICAL CO., Ltd., and PUDDEFOOT, L. E. Oct. 26, 1937, No. 29165. [Class 17 (ii)] Leather is subjected to the action of a hygroscopic lactate of an alkali metal to retard the drying and prolong the period during which it remains in tempered condition. The tempering composition for the leather may comprise water and said lactate, e.g. a syrupy sodium lactate, and a mould-preventing agent, such as a sodium salt of parachlormetacresol. A wetting agent, such as saponin, may also be added.
