503,925. Iron manufacture. GES. FUR LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN AKT.-GES. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 27980. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1936. Drawings to Specification. [Class 72] Acid low-grade iron ores are, after drying and if necessary roasting, reduced in a blast furnace with a slag having a ratio of lime to silica content of less than 0À8 per cent, the temperature in the furnace being maintained above that at which the slag flows freely by enriching the blast with oxygen. Substantially the same degree of desulphurization of the iron is obtained as when slags having a higher ratio of lime to silica are employed. In an example, the slag contains 64 per cent of silica and 13À5 per cent of lime, the blast being heated to 700‹ C. and enriched to contain 26 per cent of oxygen.
