Abstract

569,811. Iron manufacture. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A. May, 24, 1940, No. 9192. Convention date, May 24, 1939. [Class 72] In the smelting in a blast furnace of iron ores containing relatively high quantities of titanic acid, either alone or in conjunction with other iron ores, the titanium ores are reduced, if necessary, to a fine state of division and sintered or agglomerated before charging into the furnace, the burden of which is proportioned, so as to produce slags having a melting point not higher than 1450‹ C. and preferably those which do not contain more than 20 per cent of titanic acid. The burdening of the furnace may be carried out as described in Specifications 460,138 and 475,345. The titanium one before being sintered or agglomerated may be subjected to a concentration process, preferably magnetic separation. Specifications 454,562 and 28529/38, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (4), also are referred to.
